Last Thursday the heads of Buffalo were treated to another great festival like experience with the North Mississippi All-Stars rocking Lafayette Square. These guys jammed out for two hours with some great improvisational blues, and  Grateful Dead riffs.

Bob Weir & Ratdog | Darien Lake 08.19.07 MP3’s and PICS

Download entire set in MP3 format here.

Great show even though you can barely here or see anything from the lawn seats at Darien Lake. We still had a blast. The parking lot was awesome with Shake Down street rivaling that of Mountain Jam 2007 earlier this year.

Hippies were everywhere in thier finest. The police presence was quite a buzz kill. This ain’t the 80’s at Rich Stadium.

Here’s a few pics from the show. Sorry I don’t have any close ups.

Review: Rebel Jelly | 08.19 Darien Lake Parking Lot

bandthatjam.net exclusive!

Yesterday I went to see Bob Weir & Ratdog along with the Allman Brothers Band at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Buffalo. (I’ll have more on this show later in the week)

In the parking lot there was an awesome jam band by the name of “Rebel Jelly” playing before the show. These guys are from Rochester, NY and are getting gigs all over the east coast even though they’ve only been together for a short time.

From the bands website they consider themselves to be Funk / Pop / Fusion with improvisation for a unique sound. R. Jelly’s members share a wide range of influences. We feel the one’s most touched upon in this musical context are Stevie Wonder, Bill Frisell, Carter Beauford, The Meters, Thom Yorke and Micheal Jackson - other influences include sleep deprivation, humor, free food and the inexplicable passion.

To find out when these guys are playing near you check their official website at http://www.rebeljelly.com/live/

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad is a roots, reggae, and experimental dub band hailing from Rochester, NY. They are in the midst of a northeast tour and will be heading out west in October.

These guys have come out of no where and are now getting air time on Sirius 17 JamOn and XM radio. This high quality sound board recording is a must have for your collection.

Preview: Allman Brothers with Bob Weir & Ratdog

(thanks to “racpack” for this one from last night at the Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, Raleigh NC 8.11.2007)

Just 4 more days until we load up the van with food, a cooler, a grill, and some friends for a day of tailgating and good music at Darian Lake Performing Center.

The Allman Brothers kicked off their only tour of the summer on August 1rst at the Casino Ramo in Ontorio, Canada. Since then they played shows 5 days a week in working their way from New Hampshire all the way down to Virginia Beach.

Click here for tour dates and ticket information.

Bob Weir and Ratdog just threw down at the dead favorite Gathering Of The Vibes Festival in CT last week and are scheduled to open for the Allman Brothers on Sunday and at 6 more upcoming shows.

Ratdog played two nights ago at Boarding House Park in MA. Check out how good these guys still sound after all these years on this excellent recording.

New Monsoon | Live Soundboard MP3’s

(thanks to adub for the awesome photos)

One of my favorite Jam Bands lately has been New Monsoon. The band creates music that is influenced by everything from jazz, to Latin themes, to Indian music. This band gets down with percussions like no other band on the scene.

I was able to find an awesome soundboard recording of their show from 08.12.06 . You can grab this entire 14 song set in MP3 format for free by clicking HERE .

Drumming At Griffis Sculpture Park | 08.14.07

I returned to the southern tier of NY state again tonight to participate in a drum circle/workshop at Griffis Sculpture Park in Ellicotville, NY. It was the the perfect evening and venue for drumming with over 20 drummers of all ages participating in a truely one of a kind event.

This was my first visit to Griffis Sclupture Park and I was blown away by this slice of heaven tucked away in Western NY. Simon Griffis, Executive Director of the Ashford Hollow Foundation hosted the event with the help of T.R. McKotch, Rhonda Harp, & Doug Sitler whose drumming expertise blended the structure of a workshop with the free form environment of a drum circle where experienced drummers and new comers came together to explore tribal drumming at it’s finest.

This this event in as many months capped a very successful summer of drumming sessions at Griffis Sculpture Park. Below are a couple of pics that I took of event. For pictures of previous events and information on the Griffis Sculpture Park check out their official website at www.griffispark.org.

Dark Star Orchestra | 11.29.06 SBD MP3’s

Dark Star Orchestra is one of the best Grateful Dead cover bands on tour today. This band tours around the country re-playing entire Grateful Dead shows. They have been touring since 1997 and have been joined on stage by Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Vince Welnick, Tom Constanten, Steve Kimock, Rob Barraco, Jon Fishman, Jorma Kaukonen and many others.

The band uses as close to the Dead’s original equipment as they can so they can reproduce the sound of the shows they are emulating. They even go so far as to change equipment to resemble which equipment the Dead would have used in different era’s.

I found this recording on The Archive. What makes this show great besides the awesome set list is that it’s a sound board recording. Unlike a lot of the stuff on The Archive which are audience recordings that generally pick up a lot of background noise and crowd chatter.

This particular set is a replay of The Dead performing 09.15.1972 at Boston Music Hail, Boston, MA.

To view the set list and full details check out The Archive here.

Keller Williams | 08.09 MP3’s

I missed the show this week at Lafayette Square as I was camping at Allegheny State Park for the week. I had planned on coming back on Thursday but I was having too much fun in the wilderness to make it back to town midweek. After listening to the show I’m kicking myself for not making it. I’m sure the hippies of Buffalo were glad to hear a few Greatful Dead jams including the encore “Women Are Smarter.” KW is one of a kind musician who has played jam festival Bonnaroo and Red Rocks. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to KW yet I’d highly recommend downloading this high quality set.

The show is available for download in MP3 format here:
