Jackie Greene Interview @ Glide Magazine

jackiegreen.jpgGlide Magazine has a great interview with guitar legend in the making Jackie Greene. For those of you who saw Phil Lesh & Friends last year or this year you’ll probably agree with this assessment.

He’s just released his 4th studio album titled Giving Up The Ghost.

Album Review: Pete Francis - Iron Sea & The Calvary

cd-cover1.jpgIn his fifth solo effort since leaving Dispatch, Pete Francis drives an eclectic ride thru 10 tracks on his newly released album Iron Sea & The Cavalry.

Johnny Ocho’s Lullaby opens the album w/ a nice hook & country feel reminiscent of Drive-by Truckers. It then picks up the electric (both guitar & organ) in Armies of Angels & creates a groove of urban bluegrass that carries through to Shooting Star & The Ambulance. Pete Francis beefs up his vocals which mesh w/ the great building rifts by Boo Reiners on steel guitar & electric organ the band creates. Read the rest of this entry »

Rain Washes Out Earth Day Festival @ DC National Mall 4.20

photo.jpg

What a joke. First Green Apple Festival announces lineups in 8 cities. In Washington DC they never posted anything that resembled a schedule for the supposed festival from noon until midnight on 4/20. Upon checking a few bands websites the day before the show I discovered that Gov’t Mule and Umphrey’s McGee were to play 20 minute sets!

We arrive at the National Mall at 12:30 to gray skies but an other wise pleasant afternoon. The organizers were expecting a big crowd with huge screens and additional concert speakers through out the mall. O.A.R. came on as soon as we arrived. They quickly played a couple of their usual songs and made way for speakers who rambled on for quite a while. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Camp Preview 05.23 to 05.25

summercamp.JPGSummer Camp returns to Illinois for it’s 8th year with a great lineup featuring headlining shows by moe. and Umphrey’s McGee. This year’s event will be held on May 23rd, 24th and 25th at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois, just 20 miles north of Peoria. It’s nice to see a true jam band lineup at a festival this summer!

Umphrey’s McGee will play two days including a full 2-set show on Friday night! The Summer Camp 2008 Music Festival will feature over 45 bands performing on 4 stages, plus late night shows, daily musician workshops, on-site camping, great food & drink, all kinds of good beer, unique merchandise vending and all the friends you’ve come to expect!

With many new additions and improvements, including the addition of a second main stage and improved greening initiatives to lessen the carbon footprint of the event, this year’s Summer Camp will surely be the best festival in the Midwest!

Widespread Panic to Close Bonnaroo 2008

roologo1.jpg Widespread Panic announced that they will act as the finale to this year’s Bonnaroo Festival, headlining a performance on Sunday evening, June 15th. I’m glad to see Widespread Panic being added to this festival. With the previous announcements of Metallica & Perl Jam Bonnaroo has completely lost it’s title as “best jam band festival.” Its good to see that Clear Channel hasn’t completely alienated the core fans that created this festival. The band had this to say in its newsletter today. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Umphrey’s Live @ Town Ballroom 04.09.08 MP3 & PICS

The boys from Chicago put on a killer show on Wednesday for the Umphreak’s of Buffalo. The first set is simply amazing and will quickly become one of their most downloaded shows. I wouldn’t be surprised if some or all of the material eventually made it onto an official live release. They came on at roughly 9:30 to a raucous crowd who had been chanting for a the better part of half an hour for the band to take the stage. The crowd consisted of the usual buffalo heads, some teenagers, and even some gray haired fans that know that even though it’s not the 60’s Umphrey’s will impress every time out. Umphrey’s McGee Live @ Egyption Theatre 04.08.2008

Umphrey’s McGee has made a soundboard recording of their recent show at NIU available for download on The Archive.

To grab this set now in MP3 format click HERE.

Here’s the word from Umphrey’s on this rare SBD release for The Archvie.

“The city of DeKalb and students of NIU have welcomed Umphrey’s McGee for many years, and after hearing the news of the tragedy on February 14th, we decided to give back and do whatever we could to help express how much the community has meant to us. On April 8th, we donated all of our UMLive sales as well as proceeds from poster and ticket sales to the NIU February 14th Memorial Fund.

In that spirit of giving back, we are providing for all of our fans an opportunity to listen to the UM Live recordings of our return performance to DeKalb for free on the Live Music Archive at archive.org (available for FLAC/MP3 download and streaming). UMLive.net purchases will still be available, and all proceeds will be donated to the fund.

We encourage all Umphrey’s fans interested in donating to this worthy cause to visit:
