The Black Keys Live @ 930 Club 05.13.2008

bklive3.jpgOver the past year since Bands That Jam has been online we’ve worked day and night (okay well maybe not day night but at least a few days a week) to bring you free legal downloads of great bands that jam. Of all the bands The Black Keys have been the band that I have been listening to the most over the past couple of months. I’ve been waiting for a really good set and recording to feature them here on our site. Well folks that time has come.

Just a few weeks ago The Black Keys played to a raucous crowd the famed 930 Club in D.C. For those of you have heard of these guys before they need no introduction just make the jump and grab the torrent. For those of you have yet to hear these guys get down check out the samples and hear for your self. Read the rest of this entry »

Exclusive: O’death Live @ Mohawk Place 05.18.2008

img_0149.JPGO’death brought their Appalachian bluegrass to the Mohawk Place in Buffalo this past Sunday. This quintet from NYC was rockin the place with it’s own version of bluegrass that’s meant to be moshed to. I heard these guys on the Mountain Jam Festival website and was stoked to see that they were coming to Buffalo to jam out. This set includes new material off their yet to be released album coming out this year.

The guys really get into their show with synchronized head banging and lots of energy onstage. At one point violinist Bob Pycior was playing with such fevor I thought his head was going to fly off his shoulders. They also have exceptional song writing skills with great story lines. If you dig any type of new grass you must check these guys out. Read the rest of this entry »

Cornmeal Live @ Bottleneck 03.28.2008

cornmeal2.jpgCornmeal is fresh off their Jammy Award for “New Groove” that honors up and coming jam band artists. This Quintet from Chicago is taking new grass to the next level with raw talent and a unique sound that blends roots, Americana, and folk with splashes of improvisation. They are currently on tour in the midwest in support of their album Feet First. They will be playing Summercamp, Wakarusa Festival, Bonnaroo, High Sierra, 10,000 Lakes, and Grateful Fest this summer.

This is an excellent soundboard recording of the band playing a couple of months ago at Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS. Read the rest of this entry »

Grassroots 2008 Lineup!

nggsho.jpgGrassroots in Trumansburgh, NY is one of my favorite festivals of the year. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the lineup announcement since purchasing our 4 day festival and camping passes a couple of months ago.

The festival will be headlined by Donna The Buffalo, Lucinda Williams, & Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Other performers include reggae pioneers John Brown’s Body who perform to massive crowds in their home town. I’m also looking forward to see The Hackensaw Boys, Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad, and up and coming newgrass greats Big Leg Emma who I’ve been following for years at the Great Blue Heron festival. 2008 Jammys:And The Winners Are….

picture-4.pngThe 2008 Jammys were last night at MSG in NYC. The night featured performances by Gov’t Mule, Tea Leaf Green, Grace Potter, Trey Anastasio, Booker T. Jones, Galatic and many others. It also featured several super jam lineups with members from many different bands collaborating together for some sick sick jams.

Here’s the winners from last nights show:

  • Live Performance of the Year: Gov’t Mule Bonnaroo
  • Tour of the Year: D.U.M.B.
  • Studio Album of the Year: The Conch - moe.
  • Archival Release: Three From The Vault - Grateful Dead
  • Download of the Year: Headphone Jam - Phish
  • Live Album: Live at Murat - Umphrey’s McGee
  • Song of the Year: Cadillac - Keller Williams (accepted by Chevy Chase)
  • DVD of the Year: Progressions - Disco Biscuits
  • New Groove: Cornmeal

I was glad to see Umphrey’s win for Live Album. How could they not give it to these guys? There isn’t any band out there that can compete with the live performances these guys put on. If you haven’t had a chance to see UM do your self and favor and make it happen!

For detailed recap head over to Hidden Track for Scott Bernstein’s review.

Lots of photos from the even from Reux Magazine.
