Jakob Dylan Takes The Torch Live @ Thursday At The Square - Buffalo, NY 07.03.2008

jakob5.jpg

I’m going to keep this brief as I’m about to run out the door for the Blue Heron Festival but I wanted to get this up before I left as I’ll be coming back with a bunch more music to post and I don’t want to get behind.

Bottom line. Great show. Jakob Dylan has captured everything that is good about folk music. The crowd absolutely loved him. My dad grew up listening to Bob Dylan and it was surreal to see his son a generation later playing some incredible folk music for this Buffalo crowd.

Sun Shines On Three-peat for YMSB at Lafayette Square Buffalo, NY SBD

(photos courtesy of aneurysm9)

Last year they predicted it, this year they delivered. YMSB became only the third band in the 22 year history of Thursday At The Square to do “an evening with” at Buffalo’s best outdoor venue. After playing the past two years in torrential downpours the sun finally shined for their 3rd appearance. YMSB put on an excellent show playing two sets for a total of over 2 and half hours of intense newgrass.

This is a must have set for any YMSB or newgrass/jamband fans. Jeff Austin and the rest of the guys love playing for this crowd in Buffalo. For those of you who have been to a show at Thursday At The Square you know why bands enjoy playing here so much.

Its one if the few outdoor venue’s that continues to offer free jam band concerts in a downtown setting week after week. The fans pack it right in after work and stay till 10pm. The crowd surfing is wild and the interaction between the bands and the crowd is simply amazing.

Disco Biscuits Throw Down @ Thursday At The Square 06.05.08

biscobflosquare4.jpg

Last night was sick. It was my 2nd time seeing Bisco and this is one of the best shows we’ve covered at The Square in downtown Buffalo. We got down there early and the guys from Philly opened at 6:30 with Kitchen Mittens. They moved through some of thier originals including a sick Jigsaw Earth jam. When they broke into a ruckus cover of Rage Against The Machines ‘Killing In The Name Of’ the Buffalo heads started moshing and jumping all over the place in pure elation.

The 2nd set opened with ‘Run Like Hell’ and closed with wicked cover of Nirvana’s Lithium just as the torrential downpour doused the bisco fans.

Below is the set list, and a few tracks from the show, and more pictures. Read the rest of this entry »

Last Thursday “The Duo” came on at roughly 5pm to a sparse crowd in downtown Buffalo. I was expecting a bigger crowd for these guys considering how well Buffalo has received the other jam bands that have played this summer. As time went on The Square slowly filled in.

The Duo seemed to enjoy themselves regardless and put on a rocking set that they closed with an improvisational cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

Keller Williams | 08.09 MP3’s

I missed the show this week at Lafayette Square as I was camping at Allegheny State Park for the week. I had planned on coming back on Thursday but I was having too much fun in the wilderness to make it back to town midweek. After listening to the show I’m kicking myself for not making it. I’m sure the hippies of Buffalo were glad to hear a few Greatful Dead jams including the encore “Women Are Smarter.” KW is one of a kind musician who has played jam festival Bonnaroo and Red Rocks. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to KW yet I’d highly recommend downloading this high quality set.

Preview: Keller Williams 08.09.07

Keller Williams will be performing this Thursday as part of the free summer concert series here in upstate NY. For those of you who are not familiar with Keller Williams he hails from Fredericksburg, VA and plays a combination of folk music, bluegrass, and reggae, alternative, and funk.Keller puts on a unique performance by hooking his Gibson guitar into a Echoplex delay system. This allows him to create loops on stage so he can have the sound of an entire band while only performing by himself on stage. Instruments that he plays include the harmonica, trumpet, didgeridoo and a host of other assorted instruments.Be sure to check back this weekend for pics, show download information, and a full review. Here’s a video of Keller performing “Freaker By The Speaker”enjoy!

Exclusive: John Butler Trio | Pics, MP3s, Video Review 8/2/07

Photo’s courtesy of youshisushi

Last night was awesome once again. We were treated to our 5th free jam band of the summer courtesy of Buffalo Place at the “Thursday In The Square” concert series.

The John Butler Trio jammed out for two solid hours. The set started with “I Used To Get High” at 7pm and closed out with a three song encore just after 9pm.

The highlight of the show was a 6 minute drum solo in the middle of “Good Excuse” where drummer Michael Barker lit the crowd up. At one point I had to pull my head away from my video camera to check and see if there was a 2nd drummer on the stage with him because he was playing with drum sticks in one hand and with the other hand he was playing percussions.

Thanks to Daniel Goodwin has already uploaded a recording of the show to The Archive. (click for details.)

Here’s a few songs performed live at the show last night. I was able to video tape the entire set so I will be posting more songs to YouTube over the weekend.

enjoy!

Umphrey’s McGee | Live in Buffalo 5/31/07 MP3’s

umphreys.JPG

One of the best show’s I’ve seen this year was Umphrey’s McGee. Quite a few of my friends have raved about this band and I had heard them quite a bit on Sirius but I was never really all that into them. That is until I saw them truly rock Lafayette Square in Buffalo. These guys have a unique electronic jam band sound unlike any other band on the scene.

You can download the entire show at The Archive or click HERE to grab the zipped MP3’s of the show directly.

To view pictures of the show check out the official Umphrey’s McGee gallery page.
