Ghostland Observatory | Capes Are Back!

Think The Duo meets White Stripes.

Ghostland Observatory is the duo of front man Aaron Behrens and producer/drummer Thomas Turner.

Behrens’ vocal style and stage performances are unique and uncompromising, and he has drawn early comparisons to Freddie Mercury and Prince.

Turner is heavily influenced by electronic artists such as Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier and Green Velvet, as well as rockers such as The Animals, David Bowie, and The Clash.

With their spectral blend of electronics, drums, guitar and vocals, they have emerged with a sound that is the culmination of past influence and present inspiration, and can only be described as BALLSY.

Taking the working man’s approach, Ghostland Observatory spend countless hours in their south Austin studio. They have released two albums in less than a year, and have moved audiences from coast to coast with their live performances and unique style.”

These guys can really get down. Their current tour had them in DC over the weekend, a stop at Langerado a few weeks back. They are currently playing on the west coast and will be back on the east coast for Bonnaroo.

Club Infinity Buffalo, NY

Last night was awesome. Another great night for music in Buffalo, NY. We went and saw RAQ perform at Club Infinity and were treated to two killer sets. It’s amazing how much better live music is as compared to just listening to over the radio or downloading a few songs. I was blown away at their ability to include heavy guitar riffs with improvisational jams.

I was able to video tape most of the fist set but I forgot my 2nd battery and wasn’t able to get any of the 2nd set which is a shame because the 2nd second was amazing.

I spoke with lead guitarist/vocalist Chris Michetti after the show and he said the band will soon be releasing a live album of their performance earlier this year at the famed Mr. Smalls theater in Pittsburgh, PA.

Here’s a few pics from the show. I took these with my iPhone so the quality isn’t the best.

Preview: Keller Williams 08.09.07

Keller Williams will be performing this Thursday as part of the free summer concert series here in upstate NY. For those of you who are not familiar with Keller Williams he hails from Fredericksburg, VA and plays a combination of folk music, bluegrass, and reggae, alternative, and funk.Keller puts on a unique performance by hooking his Gibson guitar into a Echoplex delay system. This allows him to create loops on stage so he can have the sound of an entire band while only performing by himself on stage. Instruments that he plays include the harmonica, trumpet, didgeridoo and a host of other assorted instruments.Be sure to check back this weekend for pics, show download information, and a full review. Here’s a video of Keller performing “Freaker By The Speaker”enjoy!

Exclusive: John Butler Trio | Pics, MP3s, Video Review 8/2/07

Photo’s courtesy of youshisushi

Last night was awesome once again. We were treated to our 5th free jam band of the summer courtesy of Buffalo Place at the “Thursday In The Square” concert series.

The John Butler Trio jammed out for two solid hours. The set started with “I Used To Get High” at 7pm and closed out with a three song encore just after 9pm.

The highlight of the show was a 6 minute drum solo in the middle of “Good Excuse” where drummer Michael Barker lit the crowd up. At one point I had to pull my head away from my video camera to check and see if there was a 2nd drummer on the stage with him because he was playing with drum sticks in one hand and with the other hand he was playing percussions.

Thanks to Daniel Goodwin has already uploaded a recording of the show to The Archive. (click for details.)

To grab the entire show now in MP3 format click HERE.

Here’s a few songs performed live at the show last night. I was able to video tape the entire set so I will be posting more songs to YouTube over the weekend.

enjoy!

John Butler Trio | Preview

My summer of jams continues this week with a free show at Thursday In The Square featuring Australian roots/jam band John Butler Trio. I’ve been looking forward to this show ever since the scheduled was announced earlier this summer.

JBT has taken the country by storm with it’s latest album “Grand National” whcih was produced by Mario Caldato Jr. who also produce albums by the Beast Boys, Beck, and Jack Johnson.

Their summer tour has included shows in UK, France, Australia, Germany, and state side at jam fest’s Bonnaroo , Wakarusa, and a show just last month at Redrocks.

Your last chance after Thursday to catch JBT live in the states this summer will be Saturday August 4th at the Newport Folk Festival before they head back down under for a two month tour.

Here’s a sample of JBT playing in Australia. They will also be featured on the Tonight Show on Tuesday night singing “Better Than” so be sure to tune in for that as well.

Exclusive: Yonder Mountain String Band - Buffalo | Review, Pics & Vid

Yesterday was awesome. YMSB came on as the opener this year at 5:45 and gave the Buffalo faithful an hour and a half of intense bluegrass music.

YMSB loves playing this venue and repeatedly told the fans how grateful they were that we came out early and withstood the rain to watch them perform. As usual the crowd was really into the bands high energy bluegrass with everyone dancing and singing along.
I was able to video tape the entire show and I’ve uploaded one of the songs to YouTube. Check it out below.

The pics are a little blury as they came from my iPhone which needs perfect light and to be held perfectly still to get quality pictures.

enjoy!

Yonder Mountain String Band | Preview & Vid

Just 2 days until Yonder Mountain String Band returns to Thursday In The Square for another great free jam band show.

Last year was the first time I had seen them and was impressed with their high energy set and exceptional song writing. The hippies of Buffalo will be sure to turn out for this one like they did last year to dance the night away.

My sources at Buffalo Place tell me that YMSB will be on from 5:45 to 7pm followed by Old’s 97 from 7:30 to 9:15pm.Here’s a sample of what to expect this Thursday.

Be sure to check back for more video’s from the show, pictures, and a full review.
