Blind Melon Lifts Melonheads @ Club Infinity 06.08.2008 MP3 LOSSLESS

warrentravis.jpgBlind Melon is back in a big way.  Lead by new lead singer Warren Travis and featuring all of the other original members including guitarists Christopher Thorn and Rogers Stevens, bassist Brad Smith and drummer Glen Graham. Blind Melon was one of my favorite bands growing up in Florida as a teenager in the early 90’s. Seeing this re-incarnation of the band was a dream come true. We’ve covered a lot of shows in 2008 and this is the one of the (photo by dfrisi) best shows we’ve  seen this year  2nd only to Umphrey’s McGee at the Town Ballroom. For those of you who follow this site - that’s saying a lot!

The new lead singer is a perfect match for the band. While he does sound similar to Shannon Hoon he definitely has his own voice which is evident when the band breaks into some of their newer material.

I was also very much impressed with the humility with which Warren Travis plays. At one point during the set he said “there’s been a lot of conflict over us getting this band back together, I’m not trying to replace Shannon Hoon - no one can do that, we’re just trying to let this music live on.”

The band played a tight set that included some older stuff from their albums in the early 90’s. There was seamless transition between the older songs and the newer ones with the band going into some extended jams. I really enjoyed “I Wonder” and “Friends” as well as the jam leading into “No Rain”

Blind Melon is currently on a North American tour that has them playing all over the U.S and a few shows in Canada. I highly recommend getting out to see these guys whether you are a fan of their older music or just a fan bands that jam these guys will impress every time out.

Okay enough of my rambles….I know why you guys are here and it’s not for my writing skills!
