The boys from Chicago put on a killer show on Wednesday for the Umphreak’s of Buffalo. The first set is simply amazing and will quickly become one of their most downloaded shows. I wouldn’t be surprised if some or all of the material eventually made it onto an official live release.They came on at roughly 9:30 to a raucous crowd who had been chanting for a the better part of half an hour for the band to take the stage. The crowd consisted of the usual buffalo heads, some teenagers, and even some gray haired fans that know that even though it’s not the 60’s Umphrey’s will impress every time out.The set opens with a 30 minute rendition of Utopian Fir that included elements of funk, reggae, progressive rock, and just straight up improv. This opening song alone is worth the download.

The first set was mostly all instrumental with Anchor Drops following the opener. Ryan Stasick really let it all out in the rare playing of Senor Mouse which hadn’t been played in over 120 shows.

They highlights of the second set included a mind blowing Ocean Billy, Bridgless, and Roulette for the encore.
